Invest sustainably in sustainable real estate from Europe now - ESG as ReNVEST's North Star

ESG is discussed by all stakeholders and sustainability is the new currency of real estate. Green credentials are now seen as a premium for residential and commercial property and this trend will continue to gain momentum, fuelled by the demand of institutional investors, the desire of companies and the real estate market to become greener and government initiatives to combat climate change.

ESG measures are a focal point of business strategy for ReNVEST DAO. This is driven by investor pressure, the evolving legal environment, a growing ESG awareness among stakeholders and risk assessment in securing financing, in addition to the need for cost optimization.

UN Global Compact and UN PRI (Principles for Responsible Investment) are two initiatives that bring together development companies and investors that adhere to sustainable investment principles. According to the estimates of these initiatives, businesses that implement ESG guidelines can expect to grow at a faster rate, while enjoying increased sales revenues through the added ability to enter new markets and attract new environmentally-conscious consumer groups and investors. They can also raise capital more cheaply and be perceived as less risky.

Research shows that construction is responsible for 40% of the global CO2 emissions and cities consume between 60% to 80% of the global energy resources available. The real estate sector is therefore an important factor when it comes to considerations of ESG policy.

According to Bloomberg, the last years were milestones for decarbonizing the world's energy systems. Investment in energy transition reached $1.1 trillion last year and equalled global investment in fossil fuels. This means a huge change in the way companies and properties operate.

At ReNVEST DAO, we are aware our success depends on long-term thinking and balancing our operations, assets and financial considerations with the social and environmental challenges. We believe that ESG considerations are a key driver in creating long-term value for our stakeholders and society by making our business model and managed assets future-proof. 2024 and 2025 are key strategic years for us in which we formalize our ESG strategy in an integrated framework by defining ambitions and targets built around three focus areas: our operations, our investment process and our portfolio of investments.

We recognise that the assets in our portfolio impact the lives of the communities and neighbourhoods in which they are located. At ReNVEST DAO, we are integrating social and environmental criteria in our investment decisions in order to create a socially responsile supply and value chain.

Specific solutions that we will employ in our projects include:

  • enhanced energy efficiency of assets through the use of effective thermal insulation materials, passive design, rainwater recovery, the use of certified and recycled construction materials, subjecting projects to BREEAM certification

  • inclusion of solar panels and other renewable and energy efficient systems for HVAC (heating, ventilation and cooling), EV charging stations and LED lighting

  • ensuring the largest possible biologically active area and preventing loss of biodiversity

  • ensuring waste management models

  • creating a workplace where each employee, regardless of gender, skin colour, religious or sexual orientation, can feel comfortable

  • investing in the talent of our employees

  • focusing on collaborating with local communities, supporting local initiatives, education and CSR

In the coming years, ReNVEST DAO will gain more clarity and consistency in measuring and evaluating the ESG impact of our operations and assets, including greenhouse gas emissions.
